A Romantic Proposal in Boston

I met Clarisa at the same place everyone meets a new friend: the kickball field. I had just joined my roommate Abigail's company team and strategically "found" myself in the outfield, as far away from the ball as possible. As luck would have it, there was Clarisa who had the same (brilliant) idea. Clearly, we were the star players.

Fast forward to now, she’s a wonderful friend that I feel so lucky to know and even luckier to have captured such an important moment in her life. Stay with me, because this is a long one.

I got a message from Bradd on a Tuesday morning, asking if I happened to be free the following Saturday to photograph him proposing. Conveniently, I was. When I got home from work that day, Abigail was so excited to share with me the message she received from Clarisa the same afternoon with her suspicions that the proposal was coming soon.

And so began the most difficult secret to keep. For the next 72 HOURS, Abigail kept me up-to-date with all of Clarisa’s suspicions while I desperately tried not to reveal that they were accurate. The highlight was when Abigail was sharing these texts while we were on a call with another friend that night and said, “the craziest part of this whole thing would be if Margaret’s known the whole time!!” Spoiler alert: the secret was kept and everyone was surprised.

Meanwhile, Bradd was planning the most special proposal. He picked Piers Park in Boston: a location that was both meaningful to the two of them and featured the gorgeous Boston skyline. We arrived early to scout out different spots that ensured I could be hidden for the initial proposal, laid out some rose petals, and then it was gametime.

The proposal itself was so intimate and wonderful. My favorite part was immediately after Bradd slipped the ring onto her finger, he also pulled out a rose for her as a nod to their mutual love for The Bachelor. My heart.

Even with all of her suspicions, Clarisa had no idea it was going to happen that morning and Abigail startled some residents of Somerville with her screams of excitement when we FaceTimed her afterwards.

Proposals are the best.
